Here is my Raspberry Pi in position behind my TV.

Managed to get short HDMI and USB cables off eBay to keep things neater. If you notice the Pi gets power direct from the TV so when the TV turns on it boots the Pi :)

I used Velcro to attach the Pi to the TV so it can be removed if needed. Of course the Pi is running the latest RaspBMC :D

Quartz, an AppleTV type skin for RaspBMC (XBMC)

On my quest to setup my Raspberry Pi as a XBMC client I came across Quartz a cool looking skin that makes your RaspBMC look more like an AppleTV.

As you can see from the video above it looks and feels just like the real thing allowing total customisation over menus etc.

Needless to say this is now the default skin for my RaspBMC.

After a lot of bargain hunting (everyone loves a bargain) I finally bought myself a cased Raspberry Pi from CPC using this deal I found on HotUKDeals

The intention is to use it to run RaspBMC and I’ve already made progress getting this up and running. I’ll hopefully be adding a blog post soon once I’m happy with the setup.

AirPlay on the Raspberry Pi

One of the cool things you can do with the Raspberry Pi is send content to it from your iOS device via AirPlay. This is possible using an application such as RaspBMC (and maybe others).

This video shows you how easy it is to setup and I hope to try this myself in the near future.

Free Computing at School teaching manual

With a background in using ICT, as it was called back in the day, within education I was interested to see that a teaching manual for the Raspberry Pi has been made available under a Creative Commons licence. The free manual, which is available from the link above and from the Pi store, covers number of subjects ranging from getting started to Python development.

This is exactly the sort of thing that makes me excited for the future of the Raspberry Pi, as more and more talented people put the time and effort into developing software and materials we’ll see a lot more young people become interested and take up software development and design. The future is looking good.

Welcome to my new project for 2013.  Over the next few months, or even years depending on spare time, you will find a wealth spattering of information as I discover more about the Raspberry Pi.

As a long time Apple user and self confessed geek I hope to bring you a different slant on all things Raspberry Pi giving you practical yet interesting information to help you get started.

But this isn’t all about me, tumblr have kindly added the ability to ‘Ask me anything’ so if theres something you’d like to know more about or something you’d like me to discuss on the blog let me know.
